Cycling Routes on the Island of Murter: A 2-Wheel Adventure

Murter is special because of its diversity. On one side, you have picturesque settlements – Murter, Betina, Jezera, and Tisno – connected by modern roads, while the interior hides macadam (gravel) paths that tell the story of peasant life, olive growing, and fishing.
Thanks to the CiklOtok project, the trails are superbly marked, and digital support ensures you never get lost. Cycling gives you a freedom that a car doesn’t: you can stop at any hidden cove, like the quiet Kosirina beach, or take a quick jump into the refreshing sea at Podvrške beach without worrying about parking.

Bicycle Rental
Not bringing your own bike? No problem. Murter has a well-developed network of rental agencies. In 2026, electric bikes (e-bikes) are an absolute hit. They allow families with children and recreational riders to effortlessly conquer climbs to viewpoints and enjoy riding even in summer temperatures.
Approximate rental prices:
- Standard MTB: from €20 per day.
- Electric bike: from €40 per day.
Rentals can be found in all towns, and we recommend booking your e-bike in advance if you are visiting during peak season.
Combine Cycling with Beaches and Accommodation
After an active morning on the bike, you deserve a rest. Most trails lead directly to well-known sandy oases. You can take a break at Slanica beach, which is perfect for children due to its shallow water, or explore one of the 5 most popular children’s beaches on the island.
If you are planning your stay, consider the accommodation. Our offer includes:
- Apartments with a pool – for perfect muscle relaxation after a ride.
- Family apartments – with enough space for your gear.
- Holiday homes – if you are looking for peace and privacy in nature.
For those who want an extra dose of adventure, we also recommend exploring the coast by kayak around Murter, which is an excellent addition to cycling.

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
What time of day is best to go for a ride?
In summer, it is recommended to leave no later than 8:00 AM to finish the tour before noon. If you prefer evening rides, head out around 5:00 PM or 6:00 PM to enjoy a spectacular sunset at one of the viewpoints.
Are the trails on Murter safe for children?
Yes, especially the road routes like the Murter-Betina section. However, during the summer months, we recommend riding in the early morning hours due to less traffic and lower temperatures.
Are there dangerous parts on the trails?
The main danger is traffic on the state road in the summer. On the trails themselves, watch out for unexpected stairs in Tisno (Route 212) and steep descents on the inland macadam paths where the surface can be unstable.
Do I need an MTB for Murter?
For trails like “The Bodul Story,” a regular trekking or road bike is sufficient. However, for the island’s interior, an MTB or a sturdier e-bike is recommended due to the macadam surface.
Which wind is best for cycling?
The summer maestral (a pleasant westerly wind) will provide much-needed refreshment. Avoid long rides during the bura (strong northeasterly wind) if you aren’t experienced, as its gusts can be unpredictable, while the jugo (southeasterly wind) brings mugginess and humidity.
